Day 35: Up the Detroit River

July 6, 2025: We left Put-In Bay shortly before 9 am, heading north across Lake Erie toward the mouth of the Detroit River. It was windy and a rougher crossing; however, Our Delite persevered. We got a great view of Detroit’s skyline and also the International Bridge, a suspension bridge being built between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.

Marcia having a serious discussion about her wine selection.

Initially, we tried to get dinner on a patio because Zander is not typically welcome in restaurants but the restaurant said no to his being on the patio. We walked back to the boat in sweltering humidity and decided to leave him on board while we took the dinghy to a different restaurant. We left all the windows and hatches open with Z inside since there was no AC. That was a mistake because a downpour hit and it lasted almost an hour. When we got back to the boat, it was mop and clean up time!

We had reservations at the Jefferson Beach Safe Harbor on Nautical Mile on Lake St. Claire; however, the slip assigned to us was not wide enough for Our Delite. This created some problems which were not totally resolved but sufficient that we were securely tied up but we did not have access to electrical power - which means no AC.
