THE BEST OF …
FOOD: Italian seems to be the predominant food everywhere we go; however, thus far the “hit it out of the ballpark” has to be the key lime pie at Dinosaur’s BBQ in Troy. We went back a second night just to get the pie. If it was just Rayma saying this, our friends would yawn and say, so? But Tom, the health nut, led the charge on the key lime pie so obviously it was something extra special.
We have had Chinese, Greek, BBQ, American (burgers) and seafood in everything from a hole in the wall diner to upscale restaurants. The Hook in MacKinaw City is in the running for best meal.
The competition in this category is not closed. We are continuing to take contestants and judge the results.
MARINA: This is difficult, and perhaps premature. None of the marinas have been bad. Some are more rustic but compensated by their hospitality. Case in point: Hancock Harbor off of the Delaware. They were super cooperative with us getting our 50 hour engine check. They had a huge restaurant (where even Zander was welcomed inside), a huge bar outside with live entertainment. The showers? That is where the “rustic” comes in but as the water heater was right next to the shower, there were no complaints. Duncan Bay had huge showers with private restrooms and a pool! Tiny, remote Thessalon had the best showers.
COOLEST OTHER BOAT: Thus far, it has to be Jill and Steve’s sailboat. We can only say look at the photo!

June 25, 2025
In addition to the humidity, there are the BUGS. In the morning, it looks like mass murder on the decks where we find thousands of bug carcasses. (See photos.) Have no idea what these bugs are but they are not the winged vampires that have descended upon us in the last couple of days. My Dad had a bedtime routine during the summer of walking through our house with a towel killing mosquitos. Back then, we had a swamp cooler not an AC unit. Last night I was on a similar rampage inside the boat. We have a device plugged in to attract and trap the vicious blood suckers (and anything else that flies) but I have bites the size of Toledo in places I don’t want to mention. Accordingly, I have also put up bug patches on my pillow and around the bed. The multi-level attack seems to be working or at least reducing the number of bites. /s/ rayma
UPDATE: “May flies” arrived July 1. They don’t bite or sting but they are everywhere!
