Day 38-39: Solving problems and waiting
July 9, 2025: We had hoped to be on our way to Lake Huron today but that was not possible due to work being done on Our Delite. The generator issue got fixed ($$) but because we had been waiting on the mechanic for that, Tom decided to have repairs made to the fiberglass from the “incidents” earlier in the trip. Turns out that required three days instead of two because stuff has to dry and cure and $$$. The marina (Safe Harbor at Jefferson Beach) has 900 slips! Busy all the time. We have met lots of folks and enjoyed our stay.
We did a little trip over to the Ford Mansion, less than a mile away. Again, surprisingly less grand than one might anticipate although the grounds are huge - think larger than many city parks.
We were also able to create a schedule for most of our time on Lake Huron and make reservations at various marinas. Now all we have to do is get there in time!
Tom was liking the tall counters in the butler’s pantry. Reminds him of home.
Waiting for our Uber outside the Ford “garage” or main gate.
Main gate to Ford estate.
We should have taken the advice of one of the people at the marina - to take the dingy and see the estate from the water. The grounds were beautiful and are lakeside - full views of the lake. We can just imagine what it was like to live there.
There was no AC in those days. One of the favorite rooms was the flower room - Eleanor Ford had fresh flowers daily. We were a little envious of that.
