Day 23: Waiting for Dr John
Dean left this morning, his replacement, Dr. John, is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. So we are hovering in place at Brewerton, NY - which is less than 30 minutes north of Syracuse. Hovering in place means we did laundry. It means the boat got a good washing after a pretty good storm last night.
We were able to work on our schedule for the western half of the Erie Canal. Working on the schedule means consulting three different books, three different apps and a couple of different websites to figure out how far we can travel each day, where there were marinas that might take our boat, and how many locks we would be going through. First, recognize that the number of locks affects the time it will take us to travel. Second, there are significantly fewer marinas on this section of the Erie Canal. Third, even fewer marinas will take a boat the size of Our Delite. Add to these factors that we need to get Dr. John to the airport in Detroit by a particular date.
So of course, we made good use of our time testing out the newly acquired Igloo cooler/card table.
Playing gin on the stern patio. Tom is watching the young women next door jumping into the river off a dock. Ah, those were the days when wearing a bikini was normal and not a traumatic incident.
