Days 96-97: End of the Road (River)

September 5-6: We left Pebble Isle, KY and headed south to our last destination of this leg of the Loop - Safe Harbor Aqua Yachts in Iuka, Mississippi, on Pickwick Lake.

It was another long day (8:45 am until 4:15 pm) as we went through Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River onto Pickwick Lake, approximately 120 miles. This required going through the Pickwick Lock, which lifted Our Delite a total of 55 feet. We were lucky to get to the lock in time to included with three other “pleasure crafts” but it also meant we had to “raft” on to another boat. We had not rafted before. Rafting means we tied up to the side of another boat, which boat was holding onto a floating bollard in the lock. Mission Accomplished!

The photographs above show some of the sights along the river. As can be seen, there are houses along the river - some of which are “on stilts” - and there are what appear to be carport-like structures in which people had boat trailers, RVs and the like. Admittedly the cinnamon rolls were a bonus offered by Pebble Isle in the morning which we took full advantage of! Yum.
