Day 27: A near decapitation
June 26, 2025: We left Macedon in the rain. As the rain was quitting, we entered Fairport a lovely little community with very nice law enforcement officers. There were boats lining both sides of the canal. According to its specifications, Our Delite is 12’4” tall. According to Navionics, the Fairport bridge has 15’7” of clearance. One of these figures is wrong. Even if you add 3’ to the height of Our Delite, we should have been able to go under that bridge but no. John was on the bow and Rayma at the helm when John tells her to back up the boat (we were going a little more than idle) but it was too late. The roof got hit and the Garmin radar got taken out, one of the solar panels was damaged and the Starlink doesn’t work now. An hour later, we had a Garmin technician help us. Now we have to replace the Starlink so we can have internet again. Rayma has apologized to John for almost taking his head off. Tom has been remarkably sanguine about this blow.
On the positive side, who knew that cruising through Rochester was so beautiful?
