Day 19: Survival (not triumph) of Locks 11-17!
We had so much trepidation about Lock 17 that we did not realize that some of the others were going to present their own challenges. Long story short we got another badge of dishonor. That said, we negotiated the lock we were worried about without any difficulty. Life lessons. Aside from that it was a great day! Oh well, another exception to the great day description? Zander jumped ship while we were attached to a wall, waiting for a lock to open. He jumped through the railing onto the wall and grassy area immediately beside the boat. Thankfully, he did NOT have his life jacket on or it would have knocked him into the water between the wall and the boat and that would have likely had a tragic ending. We have had a little sit down with Zander and talked about his unauthorized departure from the boat as being a non-negotiable no-no. He was up for promotion to Commodore but that has been back-burnered now.
To see what the “lineman” do during docking, see the time lapse photos below. The first is Rayma on the stern; the second is Dean on the bow.
Upper State New York is beautiful. We are loving the green lush landscape and we get peeks of farms and preservation areas as we travel. It is so peaceful - we can almost always hear birds and ducks. Lots of ducks and geese and their respective babies on the river.
