Days 53-54: DeTour and back to Duncan Bay

July 27-28, 2025: We left Thessalon and arrived in DeTour, Michigan on July 27. DeTour is located in a channel between two islands on Lake Huron. Small town with a nice marina.

We left DeTour to cross Lake Huron (again) to get to the Duncan Bay Boat Club in Cheboygan, MI. The crossing was particularly easy - especially compared to the journey going to the North Channel. We are here for a few days to do our usual chores (groceries, laundry) and to get our Garmin radar installed. (Plus Rayma had a court appearance via phone so she needed reliable cell service.)

Here we are with Steve, who we met at the restaurant in DeTour. He happens to be an experienced boater from St. Louis and he gave us loads of advice about the Mississippi chapter of our trip. We had a fun time with Steve as can be seen by the smiles on our faces.

Zander on his bed, immediately next to the helm. Safe by his Captain Mom.

Right: Part of operating the boat while under way is keeping track of the depth of the water. No worries here - while crossing Lake Huron it was 179 feet deep! Since our draft (depth of the boat in the water) is 2 feet 4 inches, most of the time the depth of the water is not an issue. The water was calm and there was little wind so we took our time and only went 9 knots.

Dinner at the only restaurant in DeTour. As usual, we eat outside so Zander can join us. Notice the day lilies? They are everywhere up here and we have really been enjoying them.

This shows how easy the crossing to Duncan Bay was - Tom is relaxing on the back of the boat with his phone.
